KEG HIRE FAQ’s

How many beers do I get in a keg?

Keg King delivers 30L kegs. That works out to approximately 60 500ml Pints. We also make use of the bigger 50L kegs. Thats 100 pints!

How long do I get to keep the keg?

Each hire is for a single night. Should you require the unit for an extra day, this will be dependent on demand.
Should you be hiring the unit on a Saturday, we will deliver either Friday afternoon or Saturday Morning and collect on Monday.

What do I get when I order my keg?

All customers receive with their keg:

  • Keg King Portable Cooler Dispensing Unit - “Draught Tap”
  • All the equipment to tap and pour the beer

  • Enough gas to pump the keg
(note: for multiple kegs, a fee is charged for additional gas should it be required.)
  • 35 Plastic Draught Cups

Do I need experience to pour the beer?

Absolutely not, but if you feel nervous upon delivery our helpful staff will be more than happy to show you how to pour to perfection!

Will I lose half the beer through wastage?

No. The Keg King unit makes use of a special tap head that minimizes wastage and is really easy to use.

Do you charge a deposit?

Yes, a R360 deposit is charged per keg. This is refunded on the successful return of the unit and kegs. Any damage or loss through negligence or mishandling of the equipment will be billed after the event. The equipment is expensive, so please take care of it. Should we choose to waive the deposit on the keg, you will be liable for the full deposit if you do not return the keg.

Should I get more than one keg?

Only you know what sort of drinkers you will be having at your party. If your friends are big drinkers a second keg wouldn’t be a bad idea. Keep in mind that we refund all unused kegs* and only charge a R100 handling fee. We do not refund for partially used kegs. Any keg that is opened / cracked is deemed as used. If you still have beer left after your party, we will let you keep the dispensing unit for an extra day to finish the beer if there are no other bookings. Remember that once the keg is opened, you need to drink the beer within 3-4 days or else the quality starts to deteriorate.

  • Some breweries do not take their kegs back, please confirm with us prior to ordering your beer

How much does it cost to deliver?

A nominal R100 for delivery, setup and collection within 25km of the City Centre. Delivery to areas outside of this will be quoted on. Generally we can deliver to anywhere within reason, and further subject to our delivery schedule. Please call if you are unsure whether you lie within our delivery zone.

Can I pick up the equipment myself?

Yes, especially if you order at the last minute. KEG KING Head Office is based in Montague Gardens, just outside the CBD. Call us and we will give you directions. Delivery only in all other areas.

Can I hire the equipment without the keg?

Yes. We will quote you based on your requirements.

How does the beer get cold?

Your kegs will be delivered at room temperature, the cooler dispensing unit has a cold plate inside which the beer passes through. Simply add ice to the cool unit, connect the keg coupler and as the beer passes through, it cools to the perfect drinking temperature. Now that’s what we call convenient!!
